Description:
Seven people
currently staff the Tribal Environmental Protection Agency of Quartz
Valley Indian Reservation. The EPA Director and EPA Assistant are
employed full-time. The EPA Education Outreach Coordinator and
four EPA Fishery Technicians are employed part time. Over the course of the summer we
have hired two high school interns, and a fire protection crew. Currently, the Tribal
EPA Department oversees nine grants: the General Assistance
Program Grant from the US EPA, Clean
Water 106 from US EPA,
Baseline Watershed Assessment from the BIA, Water Rights Litigation and
Negotiation from the BIA, Environmental Justice from the CAL EPA,
SWRCB, Hazardous Fuels Reduction, Community Fire Protection from the BIA, Wild land and Urban Interface
Program from the BIA, Shackleford Creek Restoration through CDFG, Sediment Source Road Inventories from the USFS,
and Salmon Surveys from the USFWS. The Tribal EPA
Department has completed many tasks during the past years of the GAP
Grants. Continued growth and accomplishments are anticipated in coming
years.
Purpose:
To addresses environmental issues that are a threat to human health or
safety, essential to the development to a sound Environmental Program,
or a means to enhance the quality of life for Quartz Valley Indian
Reservation and its Community.
