Native Gardening Project - The EPA Outreach
Coordinator along with the QVIR community children put together
a garden containing a native seed collection. The children have
participated in each step of the garden preparation. They
planted seeds and plants, watered and weeded, hung a birdhouse, butterfly feeder, and a spider
frame. They also made humming bird feeders and raised
butterflies. Harvest time has begun and we are learning to
make healthy snacks with items from our garden. From our latest
harvest we will be making sunflower seeds.
Salmon Festival - Hosted our 6th annual Salmon Festival at the
Fort Jones Elementary School.
The children enjoyed stations such as fish printing, macro
invertebrate study, spawning surveys, storytelling, a puppet
show, making lifecycle books, an obstacle game, hatchery
information, a culture booth, and the best thing of all
the traditionally cooked salmon.
